CAPE GIRARDEAU — The first day of this year’s state tournament played out eerily similar to 2011 for the Fatima volleyball team. Now, the Lady Comets are hoping the second day will have a much different result.

Just like last year, the Lady Comets split with St. Pius X: Festus in pool play and then went on to capture a berth in the Class 2 state championship game. But Fatima’s hoping for a different result today, as the Lady Comets fell to the Lancers last year.

“I’m excited that we’re back, but I care more about them playing to their potential,” Fatima coach Mark Bockstruck said. “I want to see that. … I’m happy we get this shot, I’m proud we played good enough, but I know we can play better.”
