Your Opinion: Response to Sampson on presidential candidates

Dear Editor:

The following is a response to Mr. Sampson's letter to the editor, Oct. 30.

Mr. Sampson, you are right about those pesky facts. They do so get in the way.

I believe the greatest fraud perpetrated on the American people was the deceit over weapons of mass destruction. We lost over 4,000 American men and women in an unnecessary war. I'm sure you showed the same outrage when we discovered that the "documentation" was determined to be false?

We do not know everything about the incident in Libya. In time I'm sure we'll know more. It was an act of terror and President Obama acknowledged that the very next day. It has since come to light that indeed the anti-Muslim film did play a part. I believe that there will be ongoing investigations and as President Obama got bin Laden, these folks will be found.

It was mentioned that Romney won the first debate. True. President Obama won the next two and Vice President Biden won the VP debate. The third debate on foreign policy was a disaster for Romney. He looked like a deer in the headlights and was sweating like a stuck pig. He had memorized the geography of the Middle East but demonstrated no understanding of this area.

He is, however, all ready for a war in the 20th century. The only problem is that it is the 21st century and conflicts are handled differently. We need military, yes, but we are as at risk from an envelope as we are a show of force. We are threatened in the technological world as much as on the ground. Military might for the 21st century looks much different.

I do agree with President Obama that al Qaeda is diminished. Democracy is spreading in the Middle East from the ground up. It will not be easy. There has and will be loss of life. Groups will come to power that we don't consider desirable. Should we send more men and women into harm's way or let these countries struggle and see what their citizens really want? Should the United States police the world? Where's the manpower to do this? Should we reinstate the draft? How will you pay for an expanded military?

Romney's own people have said he has no interest in foreign policy and doesn't read briefings. He is not fit to become president.
