Tuscumbia man pleads guilty to bank robbery charges

A Tuscumbia man pleaded guilty in federal court Wednesday to the armed robbery of First State Bank in Iberia and admitted he also attempted to rob Central Bank in Tuscumbia. David Brian Krzysik, 49, pleaded guilty to bank robbery and carrying a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.

Krzysik admitted to a federal judge in Jefferson City that he displayed a gun and demanded money from a teller at First State Bank on the morning of March 15. He was wearing a black wig, a black costume beard, sunglasses, jacket, baseball cap and gloves.

Krzysik then placed a duffel bag on the counter and the teller emptied the currency in her drawer into the bag. Krzysik approached another teller, who also put money into the bag, and then left the bank. The total amount of cash taken during the robbery was $3,651.

Later the same morning, he attempted to enter Central Trust Bank through the front door, but bank employees locked the door before he could get in. He then drove off.

Police caught up with Krzysik, who was driving around the Tuscumbia town square. He was stopped and arrested after driving into a wooded area and down an embankment.

Krzysik is subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in federal prison without parole, up to a sentence of life without parole. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation.

This case, being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Lynn, was investigated by the FBI, the Miller County Sheriff's Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
