More local volunteers head to East Coast

Two additional volunteers with the Heart of Missouri Red Cross are traveling to the east coast Thursday to assist in Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

One volunteer is assigned to New Brunswick, N.J., and another is deploying to White Plains, N.Y.

The chapter now has seven volunteers and two emergency response vehicles in various sections of the eastern United States.

Mike Flanagan, communications manager of the Heart of Missouri Chapter, said the chapter is expecting to send more volunteers when called upon.

He said the Red Cross is taking donations to help with relief.
