Blair Oaks pays outgoing principal for summer school
Thursday, May 31, 2012
Blair Oaks School District has paid its outgoing elementary school principal $4,000 for summer school courses she won’t be overseeing.
In February, the board voted 6-1 not to renew Lorie Winslow’s contract. After she appealed, the board unanimously reaffirmed the decision after a daylong hearing. The board found Winslow had not conducted all of the teacher evaluations required in her contract, as well as required by statute or board policy.
While Winslow will not be in the building for summer school classes, she had done a lot of preplanning for the approximately 450 elementary school students who are enrolled in the district’s enrichment program, Superintendent Jim Jones said.

Where is the rest of the story???
The superintendent (can we assume with the boards blessing?) hires someone outside the district, on short notice, not familiar with any of the kids, to manage this summer school session. How much does that cost?
Winslow is paid not only for her work to date, but also to be "on-call" right? Why not just let her complete the remainder of her contract and manage this last session?
Never before have I seen the entire 'gaggle' of administrators (in obligatory professional dress) outside the school on opening day to assist with directing the youngsters. Are they now also receiving an additional stippend for 'helping'?
Is the Blair Oaks district suddenly awash in extra money, that they can make such silly decisions? Is the current board competent to manage the district? or Do we need auditing and possible criminal investigation into the superintendent's mismanagement of taxpayer dollars?
What say YOU?

I agree!! Jim Jones is the one that needs to be the one that is let go! And maybe the rest of the school board! I think that the taxpayers should vote all of them all out. Obviously the parents and students thought a lot of Mrs. Winslow to go to all of her hearings and stand up for her. I think "Dr" Jones was just afraid that Lorie Winslow would take his job and he would be out on the street trying to feed his 5 kids.

It is a shame that this one situation has completely made people loose focus on what a great school Blair Oaks is and what has been accomplished during the past 10 years. Just be thankful and blessed that your child or childred have the opportunities offered and move forward. Do not let this current situation overshadow and bring down a great school and all the administration , teachers, and board members. Be thankful for what you have and let this issue RIP.
