Blair Oaks pays outgoing principal for summer school

Blair Oaks School District has paid its outgoing elementary school principal $4,000 for summer school courses she won't be overseeing.

In February, the board voted 6-1 not to renew Lorie Winslow's contract. After she appealed, the board unanimously reaffirmed the decision after a daylong hearing. The board found Winslow had not conducted all of the teacher evaluations required in her contract, as well as required by statute or board policy.

While Winslow will not be in the building for summer school classes, she had done a lot of preplanning for the approximately 450 elementary school students who are enrolled in the district's enrichment program, Superintendent Jim Jones said.
