Local man arrested after assault

Jefferson City police arrested Matthew C. Williams, 22, Jefferson City, on charges of domestic assault, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At about 5:40 p.m. Sunday, Jefferson City police officers responded to a disturbance possibly involving a firearm at a residence in the 1000 block of St. Mary’s Blvd.

Upon officer’s arrival a suspect was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant from Cole County.

Officers spoke to the victim who told officers that the suspect, Williams, had assaulted her and threatened her with a handgun. Officers obtained a search warrant and located a backpack in the trunk of the vehicle that Williams was in when he was stopped. A Hi-Point .380 caliber handgun and drug paraphernalia was found in a backpack.

The victim of the domestic assault received minor injuries during the assault.

Williams was taken to Cole County jail where he was incarcerated.

Charges for domestic assault in second degree, unlawful use of weapon, and possession of drug paraphernalia are being sought from the Cole County prosecuting attorney.
