114 veterans who died this year honored

Retired Col. Jim Coy gave the keynote speech at Monday’s Memorial Day program in Jefferson City, offering bits of wisdom and insight from veterans that he interviewed for two military books he’s written.

“To really live, you must almost die,” he said, quoting a Green Beret and Special Forces medic who was severely injured in Vietnam. “To those who fight for it, life and freedom have a meaning that the protected may never know.”
