Jefferson City public pools are gearing up for opening day, with both pools set to begin their season on Wednesday.
The Memorial Park Family Aquatic Center and the Ellis-Porter/Riverside Pool officially will open at noon Wednesday. Public sessions at Memorial are from noon to 7 p.m. seven days a week. Ellis-Porter is open from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Laurie Herzing, recreation program supervisor, said both pools will have some new features this year. Memorial Park has added a new “party pad,” a concrete pad with a canopy for events like birthday parties. The pool has also added some more shaded spots, she said.
Ellis-Porter has added a new climbing wall at the pool, Herzing said, and hopes to have a new toddler slide in place by opening day.
Regular admission prices for Memorial are $4 for ages 17 and under and $5 for adults, but after 5 p.m., those prices drop to $2.50 for ages 17 and under and $3 for adults. At Ellis-Porter, admission is $2.50 for those 17 and under and $3 for adults.
Herzing said the pools also will host several “family fun nights,” with the first one scheduled at Memorial from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. June 5 and $2 admission for all ages. Ellis-Porter will host one from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 12 and $1 admission for all ages.

Would have been nice if they had opened this weekend. Business would have been good. Small towns all around JC had their pools open.

Should have been open on May 26th, no excuses. No reason not to be ready and open on the first long weekend of the summer season. Mr Lockwood's apparent lack of leadership, foresight, and planning in this area needs to noted by the city council and city administrator.

Pools opened June 1st last year. Wednesday after Memorial Day weekend? Goofy little town. Hey kids - It's really hot outside, but the JC pools aren't open until Wednesday. - You could go uptown and go shopping and look at some old historic buildings. Then you can go and see where the new convention center might be someday. Isn't that exciting? There once was a place called Sunset Lake for swimming, but JC took it and turned it into a goose sanctuary. You could go to Jamestown, Eldon or Camdenton, their pools are open. And folks wonder why kids leave this town and never come back. Goofy little town.

If they wanted to swim, they should have joined the Country Club.

Guess we could have taken the kids to the public beach at Lake of the E-Coli.

I don't understand this. Our condo complex pool at the lake has been open for two weeks now. What wrong with that town??
