Mural to depict historical streetscapes of South Side

The eight panels of the 48-foot Old Munichburg mural are being painted by Jim Dyke in the basement of a 1940s movie theater (the old Coleman's building) on Dunklin Street in Jefferson City. In the 8 panels on the right, the viewer is standing at Madison Street looking west on Dunklin Street.

Below the ascending floor joists of the former Dunklin Theater, eight large panels are covered with dark, monolithic rows and starkly-colored skies.

By the end of 2012, however, those panels will become a 28-foot-long mural suspended in the windows of the former Coleman Appliance building at 117 E. Dunklin St., now owned by Central Dairy.

Jefferson City artist Jim Dyke has been commissioned by the Old Munichburg Association this spring to capture in paint the streetscapes, past and present, of the South Side.
