MU alumni group gets more members

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Membership in the University of Missouri's official alumni group has been growing this year as the university heads toward a centennial Homecoming celebration.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/L3oj6M) that the Mizzou Alumni Association had 44,415 members in mid-May, up about 5 percent over last year. Membership has grown by more than 25 percent in the last five years.

Todd McCubbin, executive director of the alumni association, said the alumni association had a major calling campaign last year asking alumni to support the university as part of its 100th anniversary of Homecoming.

McCubbin said Missouri's move from the Big 12 to the SEC also contributed to the growth. Since the November announcement, eight new alumni chapters have formed in the Southeast, with existing chapters in those states adding new members.
