Dems tab circuit clerk candidate

Interim clerk Marilue Hemmel was chosen unanimously Thursday night as the Cole County Democratic Committee’s choice to complete the last two years of former Circuit Clerk Brenda Umstattd’s term.

Umstattd resigned April 18, the same day state Auditor Tom Schweich released a 19-page report identifying several problem areas in her office operations.

Gov. Jay Nixon named Hemmel as Cole County’s interim clerk on May 3.
