Russ Bemboom, the superintendent for the Cole County Jail and an 18-year veteran with the department, has resigned.
He confirmed Thursday that he left and said it was "to pursue another avenue in his career."
The resignation comes during an investigation following a felony theft charge filed last week against a former sheriff's department jail clerk.
"At this time, there is no reason to believe Lt. Bemboom was involved in any criminal action," Cole County Sheriff Greg White said.
