Bomb threat investigation continues

On Friday, at approximately 10:45 a.m., Jefferson City police were dispatched to 2023 St. Mary's Boulevard, Missouri Department of Social Services, Child Support Enforcement Division, regarding a possible bomb threat at that location.

Officers responded, along with Jefferson City Fire Department personnel, and evacuated the building. Missouri State Highway Patrol personnel also responded, and the Missouri Capitol Police's Explosives Detection K-9 unit was requested to assist. Once the building was evacuated, Capitol Police's K-9 went through the building but could not detect any sign of explosives.

Jefferson City Police Department Detectives investigated this incident and developed a suspect. A phone interview with the suspect lead to an admission that he had, if fact, called the Missouri Department of Social Services, Child Support Enforcement Division, and had made the threat of the bomb in the building.

The suspect is living in Atlanta, Georgia and made the call from his home.

A request for charges of "Making a Terroristic Threat" has been sent to the Cole County Prosecuting Attorney's office.
