Your Opinion: Refusal to take "no' for an answer

Dear Editor:

I applaud Mr. Stallman's letter concerning the convention center.

I happened on an old copy of your newspaper. The headline read: City Council Studies Convention Center. The newspaper was over 13 years old.

Capitol Plaza people studied this issue and walked away. Truman Hotel people studied it and walked away. An old friend, Darrell Dunafon, spent $25,000 of his own money and concluded a convention center was not feasible.

We have some elected and appointed people in City Hall and some council people who are bound and determined to jam this convention center down our throat. Don't confuse them with facts or figures. Don't vote the issue down. We have had 13 years of politicians who can't take no for an answer.

Mr. Stallman wisely suggested we name the center the "White Elephant." I agree. One more suggestion. Locate it close to the railroad tracks. Then you can use it for grain storage when you get tired of it financially bleeding you white.
