Mo. lawmakers OK broadening 'move over' law

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Gov. Jay Nixon is studying legislation expanding Missouri's "move over" law to include stopped Transportation Department vehicles with flashing amber or white lights.

Missouri's existing law only requires drivers to move over for emergency vehicles.

Transportation officials praised the legislation Monday, saying it would improve worker safety. The Transportation Department says crash cushions mounted on work trucks have been struck six times this spring.

Missouri lawmakers passed the legislation during the session that wrapped up last week.
