Fatima’s Allen wins Class 2 discus title

Fatima’s Lauren Allen is no stranger to the medal stand at the Missouri State High School Activities Association Track and Field Championships.

In fact, that familiarity was the biggest obstacle Allen had to overcome in defending her title in the Class 2 discus Saturday at Dwight T. Reed Stadium.

“It’s harder to win it one year and come back the next,” Allen said after winning her second consecutive state title. ....

SYDNEY DEEKEN OF California won two events Friday to become the first double-winner in Lady Pintos’ history. The sophomore came up just short of a triple. Deeken placed second in the high jump.

Deeken will be back next year with a goal of more state medals. ....

BARELY GETTING INTO the finals may not sound great, but it actually helped Fatima’s Tom Zeilman.

Zeilman qualified for the finals in the Class 2 800-meter run after an eighth-place finish Friday. With the pressure off, he excelled Saturday, finishing second. ....

VIENNA’S COREY SCHOENE knew he probably wasn’t going to take first in the Class 1 1,600-meter run. His friend, Blake Goodin of Princeton, had already won nine state tittles and was going for No. 10.

Goodin picked up his 10th title, but Schoene stayed close behind for a second-place finish.
