UCM drops opener

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The Central Missouri Mules dropped their opening game of the NCAA Division II South Central Regional on Thursday, falling 8-6 to St. Edward's.

The Hilltoppers (36-14) jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, scoring one in the first and three in the second.

The lead reached 5-0 when St. Edward's got a run in the fourth. But the Mules (44-8) came roaring back to tie it with a five-run bottom of the fifth. Included in the outburst was a bases-clearing triple by Jordan Coons (Jefferson City High School).

The Mules will play Texas A&M-Kingsville at 11 a.m. today in an elimination game.
