Joplin hospital offers land for tornado museum

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — The site of a Joplin hospital that was destroyed in last year’s tornado might someday hold a tornado memorial museum.

The Joplin Globe reports (http://bit.ly/Kf8mdJ ) that the Sisters of Mercy Health System plans to donate land for the museum at the site of the destroyed St. John’s Regional Medical Center.

Information being distributed for the next Joplin City Council meeting says the land would be transferred to the city for building the museum within five years. Some land would also be donated for parking and a nature area.

Mercy spokeswoman Angie Saporito on Thursday confirmed the plans for a donation but said more details have not yet been determined.

The City Council will consider the land transfer at its meeting next Wednesday.
