Commission approves demolition of house

Site eyed for Helias athletic complex

A severely fire-damaged home on Swifts Highway was recently released for demolition by Jefferson City's Historic Preservation Commission.

The site, located at 1410 Swifts Hwy., is part of a growing number of properties across Myrtle Street from Helias Catholic High School, which the school has been acquiring and could possibly use in the future for an athletic complex.

The Diocese of Jefferson City, the school and the Helias Foundation do have a dream concept to one day build an athletic complex there, said Marti Dupuis, foundation executive director.

But before those intentions would be realized, "several dominoes would have to fall in place," Dupuis said. "There is no timeline; there is no campaign."
