ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Kendrys Morales had a pinch-hit, tiebreaking sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Saturday.
C.J. Wilson worked into the sixth for the Angels after becoming the first major leaguer in 11 seasons to start consecutive games. He had faced only five batters against his former team in the rain-interrupted series opener.
Mark Trumbo launched a towering two-run homer for the Angels off Matt Harrison (4-3).
Josh Hamilton hit his majors-leading 18th homer and ninth in six games for the Rangers.
The second game of the series was the earliest ever at the 18-year-old Rangers Ballpark. The 12:07 p.m. start came only 12 hours after Friday night's game ended.
David Carpenter (1-1) faced only two batters after replacing Wilson before the Angels took the lead in the seventh. Ernesto Frieri, acquired from San Diego on May 3, worked 1 2-3 innings and Scott Downs got the final out for his third save.
ORIOLES 5, RAYS 3
BALTIMORE (AP) - Adam Jones had a pair of hits and knocked in two runs, Bill Hall hit a solo homer and Baltimore capitalized on five errors in the win over Tampa Bay.
The Orioles were outhit 7-6 and struck out 12 times but scored three unearned runs for their second straight win in this series between the two top teams in the AL East.
Orioles starter Brian Matusz (2-4) gave up three runs, two earned, and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings, and Jim Johnson finished for his 11th save.
Tampa Bay starter Matt Moore (1-3) walked four and allowed four hits in 4 1-3 innings. He allowed four runs, only one of them earned.
YANKEES 6, MARINERS 2
NEW YORK (AP) - Phil Hughes won consecutive starts for the first time this season, and Raul Ibanez homered against his former team for the second straight day as New York beat Seattle.
Jayson Nix hit a two-run shot during a four-run second inning for his first homer with the Yankees, who have won six of eight.
Hughes (3-4) allowed six hits and a run in 7 2-3 innings, with four strikeouts and a walk. .
Boone Logan worked 1 1-3 innings for his second career save and first since April 2006.
Former Yankees prospect Hector Noesi (2-4) lasted seven innings, allowing five runs and six hits. He struck out four without a walk.
RED SOX 4, INDIANS 1
BOSTON (AP) - Felix Doubront pitched six strong innings and Cody Ross homered to lead Boston to a win over Cleveland and its first winning streak in May.
Doubront (3-1) allowed one run on three hits, which was all the Indians would get as relievers Andrew Miller, Vicente Padilla and Alfredo Aceves didn't allow a baserunner over the final three innings.
Aceves got his seventh save with a perfect ninth.
Zach McAllister (1-1) got the start for Cleveland after being recalled from Triple-A Columbus earlier in the day. He scattered eight hits over eight innings and struck out eight.
ATHLETICS 3, TIGERS 1
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Brandon McCarthy matched a career high with 10 strikeouts after missing his last start with a sore right shoulder, leading Oakland past Detroit.
The A's opening-day starter scattered four hits over seven innings to quiet fears of another serious injury setback. McCarthy (3-3) had struck out 10 batters only twice before.
Jonny Gomes, Cliff Pennington and Daric Barton each drove in a run for Oakland.
Doug Fister's scoreless streak ended at 11 innings when Gomes grounded a single to left field in the first. Fister (0-1) struck out eight in six innings, allowing five hits and one run. Detroit has dropped four of six to start its nine-game road trip.
ROYALS 5, WHITE SOX 0
CHICAGO (AP) - Luke Hochevar allowed three hits in seven shutout innings and Kansas City scored three first-inning runs off Chris Sale to beat Chicago.
Hochevar (3-3) cruised as the White Sox mustered only one real scoring threat against him. He walked one and struck out five, and his strong effort came after two rough outings against Detroit and New York Yankees when he surrendered a total of 16 runs in 6 1-3 innings. Greg Holland pitched the eighth and Aaron Crow walked two in the ninth before completing the shutout.
Sale (3-2), returning to the rotation after a one-appearance stint in the bullpen with a sore elbow, made his first start since May 1 and lasted five innings.
BLUE JAYS 2, TWINS 1
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Jose Bautista homered for the third time in two nights and Drew Hutchison threw six strong innings for his second career win as Toronto beat Minnesota.
Bautista has just nine hits over his past 53 at-bats, but five of them have been home runs. He hit two in Friday night's loss, and his sixth-inning solo shot against Twins starter P.J. Walters (0-1) was the game-winner.
In just his fifth appearance above Double-A, Hutchinson (2-1) allowed three hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Casey Janssen picked up his second save in as many chances.
Walters allowed six hits in six innings while striking out five.
