Postal service promoting direct mail services

A television ad shows a man bragging to his letter carrier about his special deal on a billboard to promote his new business.

But that billboard is in the middle of nowhere - and the letter carrier suggests the man should use the U.S. Postal Service's "Every Door Direct Mail" service, instead.

Although the USPS just recently began promoting the service, it's had the authority to provide direct mail for a year, said Angela Bradley, a St. Louis-based customer relations coordinator for the Postal Service's Gateway District.

Jefferson City Postmaster Don Knoth said last week several area businesses are taking advantage of the service.

For years, the Postal Service has made money from delivering bulk mail, even as customers have complained about "junk mail."
