A Fulton man faces charges for unlawful use of a firearm after allegedly shooting a gun at a local business early Saturday morning.
At 12:30 a.m., the Fulton Police Department received a report of shots fired in the Walmart parking lot.
"Upon checking the scene, officers found some shell casings in the parking lot," Maj. Roger Rice said Saturday afternoon, noting no one was injured as a result of the incident. "They checked surveillance video, got some vehicle descriptions and were able to develop some witnesses who helped identify a suspect."
Antawan J. Ferguson, 20, was taken into custody Saturday afternoon on a felony charge of unlawful use of a weapon.
Rice said the shooting was an isolated incident - the culmination of a domestic dispute.
"Apparently this had started at a bar earlier in the evening and escalated at Walmart when another vehicle came to pick (the woman involved) up," he said. "There likely will be other, domestic, charges (against Ferguson) later."
Rice said there are no other suspects at this point in the investigation.
"As far as what evidence we have shows, all the shots we have came from him," he said. "The Columbia Police Department is looking for the other vehicle for us - we hope to be able to count bullet holes."
According to Rice, the shots were fired in the direction of the roadway, but no bullet holes were found in any of the businesses or residences across from the Walmart parking lot.
Rice said he was pleased officers were able to identify and take a suspect into custody so quickly, noting shootings like this, "are something we don't want happening here."
