On Friday during a celebration of Nurses Week, Lyndsey Hees, a Lincoln University nursing student, was awarded the first Sister Mary Jean Ryan Lincoln University Nursing Scholarship.

Hees, a junior at Lincoln University, said she was surprised and honored to receive the scholarship, which was the only one she applied for this year.

“This is a great thing that will help me minimize debt,” she said.

The idea for the $2,500 scholarship was developed by hospital president Brent VanConia.
