Accidental shooting still being probed
Tuesday, May 8, 2012
Although the investigation continues into a non-fatal shooting that took place late Saturday night in Cole County, authorities are not expecting to file charges.
Sheriff Greg White said at about 11 p.m., deputies responded to the Bee Line Snack Shop at the corner of Old Lohman Road and Westview Drive regarding an individual who was reportedly shot in the shoulder which later proved to be his right upper arm.
Upon arrival, deputies found the victim had driven himself to Capital Region Medical Center and was later released following treatment.
The investigation revealed the victim and the shooter were playing with loaded .380 caliber handguns.
The shooter and the victim are both 16 years old.
The suspect advised that both firearms were stolen from vehicles in Columbia.
White said their investigation concluded “that this was truly an accident.”

Truly an accident with a stolen gun. The thought of a 16 year old with a stolen gun standing on the corner waving it around makes me cringe.

I agree with hd2000flht, charges should definitely be made against these kids for stealing the guns and possession of stolen property.

The shooting may have been an accident, but being in possession of stolen guns is a crime. By the way so is recklessly discharging a fire arm....even in the county it's a crime. So why no charges/arrest?

Would charges have been pressed if someone minding their own business, pumping their gas was shot? Maybe they were just trying to figure out the gun before they took it to JC High School the next day? I guess it's not a crime until innocent people get hurt. I know the sheriff department will give a speeding ticket without an accident. They say it's a acts a lesson so you won't commit that dangerous act again and hurt yourself or others. Doesn't playing with a gun at all, let alone in public (stolen or not) constitue a dangerous act? It's really scary that the person that decided not to press charges carries a gun himself. I guess that Sheriff White forgot his job is to "PROTECT and serve". NOT pressing charges is NOT protecting. Good job Cole County!!!!

You all amaze me. You do not have access all the data that the Sheriff and Prosecuting Att'y have and yet you all have the answer. . . . What if they were going to call in to the sheriff's department and report they had acquired the weapons from the thief and in the process were playing with the pistols? MB 1968 even infers these two boys stole the weapons . . . .
You guys are hillarious, you just have to stir things up even when you have no clue as to what you are talking about. ROFL LOL ROFL
