The Cole County Commission meeting to talk with residents around Renns Lake will take place at 6:30 p.m. May 10 at the Disabled American Veterans facility, 5054 Monticello Road.
Commissioners wanted to have a meeting with residents after hearing from their consultants that if the dam were rebuilt to make the area a public lake, the Corps of Engineers could strictly regulate it.
The original lake was built before Corps regulations were put in place, so it was "grandfathered in" and didn't have to comply with those regulations.
Commissioners have also been told that the county could only get federal grant help if the county made the area into a stream.
Residents around the lake have expressed frustration since the county agreed to have the Renn family deed the property to them after heavy rains in the fall of 2009 nearly caused the dam to collapse.
