JC Chamber spent less on economic development in 2011

The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce spent almost $200,000 less on economic development in 2011, compared with 2010.

The chamber, amid questions on the reporting practices of the organization, turned over 25 reports to the city Monday, not including the annual report of 2011, documenting five years of financial records and documentation.

These reports, available on the News Tribune website (www.newstribune.com/chamber-reports) as well as the city's, show a yearly increase in the chamber's total budget and economic development spending since 2007, with the only exception being last year.

Randy Allen, chamber president and CEO, said 2007 was the first year the chamber began to focus some of its resources on economic development. But in 2011, the chamber had lost "one and a half" of its staff members, which accounted for the reduction in economic development spending, Allen said.
