Library Board votes to seek levy increase
Wednesday, March 28, 2012
The Jefferson City/Cole County Library Board unanimously voted to have a 10-cent levy increase placed on the Cole County ballot in August.
Tuesday’s action follows the same vote by the Osage County Library Board on Friday. Last week, the Missouri River Regional Library board of trustees recommended both boards place the tax increase on their respective county ballots.
Helen Rigdon, library director, said the levy increase would be used for repairs to main library, implementing a new bar code system and allowing the library to extend services into the rural areas of Cole and Osage Counties.

To clarify in case there's any confusion, the JC/Cole County Library Board tax is levied on property in all of Cole County.

I can't believe they want to tax Cole County taxpayers more to expand services in Osage County.

Again clarifying in case of confusion, Osage County voters also will be voting on increasing that county's library tax.

The library hasn't gone for a levy increase for 58 years!?!?!?! I'll vote yes!!! I love our local library! And it's not like it's a sales tax! It's property tax! The average amount a person pays a year to the library is $25!!! People react like the library is trying to rob them! Ridiculous! I'm voting yes!
