Joplin unveils tornado anniversary plans

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) - A community walk through Joplin's tornado-ravaged neighborhoods will mark the one-year anniversary of the deadly May 22 tornado.

The "Day of Unity" walk will begin at 2:30 p.m. on the city's eastern side and move through neighborhoods until reaching Cunningham Park, with several stops along the way.

There will be a moment of silence at the park at 5:41 p.m., the time the EF-5 twister touched down. Dedication of a plaque bearing the names of the tornado's 161 victims will follow.

Joplin officials are inviting any of the more than 100,000 volunteers who helped their city in the past year to return for the event.
