3 arrested in attempted copper theft

Three Jefferson City residents were taken into custody after trying to break into a residence, Monday morning, trying to steal copper wire.

According to Jefferson City Police Department reports, round 8:15 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Olive Street for a burglary in progress call.

According to the caller, two suspects entered a vacant home through a window.

Officers arrived on scene and the suspects fled the residence, with officers in foot pursuit.

After a brief chase, officers were able to take both suspects into custody, along with a third suspect, who attempted to hide one of the suspects from pursuing officers.

Those arrested included a 20-year-old male, an 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old female.

The males are facing charges of second-degree burglary and felony resisting arrest.

The female is facing a felony hindering prosecution charge for hiding one of the suspects.

No one was hurt during the pursuit and no copper wire was taken.

Names of the suspects were not released pending the filing of formal charges.
