Your Opinion: McCarty St. project drags on

Dear Editor: Who is the contractor on the East McCarty improvement project? I have never seen any construction job "milked" as much as this project. Where are the city officials or whomever is in charge of this project? If this contractor is not capable of doing anything other than tearing up yards and making a maze out of the street, get him out of the job and rehire a contractor that will get this job done in a timely matter.

With the mild winter and nice weather for March, this project should be nearing completion. I'm starting to believe as ridiculous as it sounds, the goal must be to put the businesses along McCarty Street out of business. People are not going to drive around the barricades, dirt and rock piles; they will take their business elsewhere.

The homeowners who live on St. Louis Road don't appreciate or need all the added traffic to their street and will also be happy when this project is completed.

The citizens of Jefferson City need to drive down McCarty Street, look at this mess, drive around through the barricades and try to figure out the name of the contractor, so you may be able to keep him away from any city improvements that may start in your area.

The project has been going on for a year now, with no completion in sight. To have heavy rains, home owners and business owners will have a huge mess in their yards and driveways. The people along McCarty and all streets affected need to march on City Hall and protest; this may be the only way to get televised attention with this situation. This project has gone on way longer than necessary and is an inconvenience for all citizens in the east end.

Again I ask. Who is responsible for allowing this to continue?
