Your Opinion: Be considerate of neighbors

Dear Editor:

It's that time of year when the weather warms, individuals are working in their yards cleaning up from the winter and preparing for spring and summer. But, with that, comes a few drawbacks. Here are a few hints for being a "good neighbor."

• Love to see everyone out walking their dogs; however, do not allow your pet to mess in others' yards or on the sidewalks. Pick up after your pet. Nothing like walking down the sidewalk or in the yard and stepping in your pet's poo. Gross. I clean up after my pet, you should clean up after yours. (There is an ordinance if you're not aware.)

• Warm weather brings open windows and yard work. Please be considerate of others around you and do not let your dogs bark for hours on end. I know it's great to leave little Skippy outside in the fresh air but no one wants to hear incessant yapping all day or all night. When my pet starts barking, she is either commanded to stop (she has been trained) or she is taken inside.

• Cut your grass. Doesn't have to be immaculate but tall grass and debris piles breed mosquitoes and rodents. If you're unable, there are a lot of school students just begging for summer work. Pretty sure their prices would be reasonable.

• Empty containers holding standing water. The mosquitoes were horrible last year. If you're not using the container, kiddie pool, flower pot, etc., turn it upside down.

None of the solutions offered above require much effort. By being considerate of those around you, it certainly makes for a more pleasant neighborhood.
