Mount Vernon beats Stockton for Class 3 girls title

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Danielle Goodman scored 19 points as Mount Vernon defeated Stockton 52-48 in the Missouri Class 3 girls' state title.

Mount Vernon (26-7) converted 12 of 16 shots in the first half, including an NBA-range 3-pointer from Amelia Bramer at the buzzer to give the Mountaineers a 31-23 lead at the break.

Stockton cut the deficit to 51-48 with 10 seconds remaining on a Garrett Burton 3-pointer that was one of five the Tigers scored from long range in the fourth quarter. But a Goodman free throw with 6.8 seconds left ended the threat.

Burton scored 23 points and Ashli Burton added 10 for Stockton (24-8), which won the title last year.

Mount Vernon's Tamiaya Henderson scored 13 points in helping the Mountaineers win their second championship in three seasons.
