Cole Co. judge considers lawsuit over Mo. voter ID measure

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri trial judge is considering a legal challenge to a state constitutional amendment that would clear the way for requiring voters to show photo identification.

The Republican-led Legislature last year passed the proposed constitutional amendment, which is targeted for this year’s ballot. It would allow separate legislation requiring a photo ID to vote and establish an early voting period.

Opponents argued Friday before Cole County Presiding Judge Pat Joyce the ballot summary is false and unfair. They contend the summary refers to the “Voter Protection Act,” which never appears within the constitutional amendment. They say the Legislature already has authority to permit early voting and that the measure would create limits on early voting.

The proposed amendment seeks to get around a 2006 Missouri Supreme Court ruling that declared a previous photo ID law unconstitutional.

Please quit claiming that "the old, ill, and college students" will be stopped from voting, that is patently false or to use Jay Carney's words "they are lying". The elderly and disabled individuals have to have photo ID to get healthcare, even nursing homes are requiring verification and Social Security so they should already have the ID, students have to get photo ID to when they are enrolled at the college/university of their choice. The ID's are even being given free, so you can't use that excuse either. It might also be noted, even hospitals are taking photos for verification of identification.

wasn't it under scott walker's wisconsin that voted in the id requirement. then closed several license offices in poor districts to keep the poor from getting a ID?

Voter fraud is a fraud. The law makes it so college ids are invalid, and most college students can't afford to buy a state issued I.d. This is all a ploy to disinfrachise millions of citizens. Racist politics, that's what it is. Voter fraud is the last thing we should be worried about

this was done in tennessee as well and they informed the license offices that they were not to give advice on how to get a free id. In fact they punished several workers for telling poor people they could get a ID for free. Just a modern day poll tax if you ask me
