CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Roy Halladay was yanked in the third inning after getting rocked in the Minnesota Twins' 6-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.
Halladay allowed five runs and seven hits, including two homers, in 2 2-3 innings. Halladay gave up a long three-run homer to Chris Parmelee in the third. He left after walking the next batter on four pitches.
It was a rare sight to see the eight-time All-Star and two-time Cy Young Award winner struggle like this. Halladay is 40-16 with a 2.40 ERA, 17 complete games and five shutouts in his two seasons with the Phillies.
Twins starter Jason Marquis gave up four runs and eight hits in four innings.
Josh Willingham hit a solo shot off Halladay in the first. His RBI single in the third tied it 2-2.
BRAVES 6, NATIONALS 5
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) - Dan Uggla and Jason Heyward homered off Stephen Strasburg and Atlanta rallied for a win over Washington.
Strasburg, making his third start, gave up five hits and four runs over four innings, walking two and striking out one. He has a 7.45 ERA this spring.
Top prospect Bryce Harper returned to the Nationals lineup after missing a week with a calf strain and played center field for the first time this spring. He was 0 for 2 with a walk.
Chad Tracy and Jesus Flores homered for Washington in the fourth inning off Braves rookie starter Julio Teheran, who allowed six homers against Detroit in his spring debut two starts ago.
Braves third baseman Chipper Jones, hitless in his first 10 at-bats, bounced a single through the infield off left-handed reliever Tom Gorzelanny leading off the fifth.
TIGERS 7, METS 6, 10 INNINGS
LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Prince Fielder homered and had three hits.
Fielder's two-run homer came off Mets starter Dillon Gee in the fourth inning. Delmon Young had two hits for the Tigers, including a two-run single in a four-run fifth - all unearned - against Mets left-hander Chuck James.
Gee struck out five in four innings in his third spring start.
Detroit starter Max Scherzer did not get through the Mets' four-run third. After giving up a hit and two walks and hitting Zach Lutz with a pitch, Scherzer was replaced by Casey Crosby.
Daniel Schlereth pitched two innings of shutout relief for the win. Quintin Berry drove in Andy Dirks with the winning run in the 10th inning.
WHITE SOX 9, ANGELS 7
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Albert Pujols hit his first two homers for the Angels and Ervin Santana exited after being hit by a line drive in Los Angeles' loss.
Santana left with a bruised right arm after Alexei Ramirez's liner struck him in the shoulder with one out in the second inning. As he iced the shoulder, Santana said no X-ray was planned.
Pujols hit a three-run homer off left-hander Chris Sale in the third inning. Then he hit a solo shot off Anthony Carter in the fifth.
After Santana was hit, he was able to field the ball and throw out Ramirez at first base. Santana allowed a run and a hit in 1 1-3 innings.
Sale allowed five runs in 4 1-3 innings.
The White Sox's Tyler Flowers and Adam Dunn, and the Angels' Howie Kendrick each homered.
GIANTS 2, INDIANS 2, 10 INNINGS
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - San Francisco catcher Buster Posey made his first spring hit count as he recovers from a serious leg injury, hitting a home run.
Serving as the DH, Posey hit a 1-1 pitch from left-hander Tony Sipp just inside the foul pole in right field to tie the game in the sixth inning.
Giants closer Brian Wilson, coming back from an elbow injury that put him on the disabled list for the final six weeks of 2011, pitched a hitless, scoreless fifth inning.
BLUE JAYS 7, YANKEES 5
DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) - New York Yankees pitcher Freddy Garcia sustained a bruised right hand in the fourth inning when he was hit by a comebacker off the bat of Edwin Encarnacion, who also hit two home runs.
Garcia, who allowed Encarnacion's homer in the second inning, immediately came out of the game and was taken to Tampa, where Dr. Allen Miller, the Yankees' Tampa-based orthopedic surgeon, treated him. X-rays were taken. There was no immediate additional information.
Encarnacion, safe at first, scored on J.P. Arencibia's second homer, off Cory Wade, to put the Blue Jays ahead 3-1. Encarnacion then homered off Manny Banuelos in the fifth.
Curtis Granderson had an RBI double in the third inning that scored Derek Jeter.
ASTROS 4, CARDINALS 3
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) - St. Louis starter Lance Lynn retired the final eight batters he faced in the loss.
Lynn was destined for the bullpen when spring training opened. But the Cardinals said this week Lynn would be treated like a starter until Chris Carpenter shows he can return to the rotation.
A 24-year-old right-hander, Lynn made his major league debut in 2011, going 1-1 in 18 appearances (two starts) with a 3.12 ERA. He appeared in 10 postseason games and was 2-0. His two spring appearances before Wednesday came in relief.
Lynn allowed a pair of one-out singles in the first Wednesday before striking out Jack Cust and inducing a lazy fly ball from Jimmy Paredes. He cruised through his final two innings without allowing a base runner.
PIRATES 11, ORIOLES 5
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) - Baltimore's Nick Markakis was hitless in three at-bats in his first game since returning from offseason surgery.
Markakis left the final game of the 2011 season with an injury to his abdomen. He tried to rehabilitate it, but had surgery in January to repair the torn muscle. Manager Buck Showalter started him for the first time as the designated hitter. He struck out, grounded out and walked before leaving the game after five innings.
The Pirates scored four runs in the second off Orioles starter Jake Arrieta, who pitched 2 2-3 innings. They added three in the fifth and four in the seventh.
Pittsburgh's James McDonald allowed five runs and six hits in three innings.
MARLINS 4, RAYS 2
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) - Anibal Sanchez was dominant in his spring debut, striking out four in two scoreless innings.
The right-hander, whose debut had been pushed back due to soreness in the back side of his right shoulder, allowed two hits.
Jeremy Hellickson, making his second spring start - and third appearance - gave up four runs on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts in three innings.
A scary moment occurred in the top of the fourth inning when Rays outfielders B.J. Upton and Desmond Jennings collided chasing a flyball by Austin Kearns. It was ruled an inside-the-park home run, and the speedy outfielders were carted off the field. Both Upton and Jennings told reporters they are OK.
BREWERS 10, CUBS 2
MESA, Ariz. (AP) - George Kottaras doubled twice and drove in five runs.
Brewers starter Randy Wolf gave up his first two runs of spring training in his third start. he had gone 7 2-3 innings before Starlin Castro doubled to the wall in right-center to open the two-run fourth.
Castro, who led the National League in hits last season, went 1 for 3. Travis Wood gave up six runs - five earned - while getting just one out.
PADRES (SS) 9, REDS (SS) 4
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) - Aroldis Chapman pitched more than two innings in a big league game for the first time, allowing one run over three innings of the Reds' loss.
Chapman revived a split-finger fastball while allowing four hits, including a homer to Andy Parrino.
The Cuban defector is being converted into a starting pitcher and he is competing for the fifth spot in the Reds' rotation. He is the only left-hander among the group.
Todd Frazier, who is competing for role backing up third baseman Scott Rolen, had a two-run double off Clayton Richard for the Reds.
Richard, who didn't pitch after July 4, pitched three innings in his second spring game., Richard allowed two runs on two hits and struck out two. Richard had arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder.
DODGERS 9, REDS (SS) 1
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) - Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw cruised through four innings in his second spring outing against a Cincinnati split squad filled mostly with regulars.
Kershaw gave up a solid single to minor leaguer Henry Rodriguez and a pair of walks in four innings. He struck out six.
A.J. Ellis and Adam Kennedy homered off Homer Bailey, who is up against Aroldis Chapman for the fifth spot in the Reds' starting rotation.
Bailey surrendered six runs on six hits and three walks.
Joey Votto singled home a run off Jamey Wright for Cincinnati and Jay Bruce singled to extend his hitting streak to seven games.
Trent Oeltjen tripled home two runs in the first inning for the Dodgers but was thrown out at the plate.
ROCKIES (SS) 7, DIAMONDBACKS (SS) 4
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Carlos Gonzalez hit a three-run homer in the first inning and added an RBI single in the third, and Colorado Rockies scored seven times in the first three innings.
The Diamondbacks, who lost to San Diego earlier, have dropped nine of their last 11 Cactus League games.
Jonathan Griffin hit a long home run for Arizona in the ninth inning, Ryan Roberts had a pair of singles and Chris Young added a two-run single.
Rockies starter Juan Nicasio allowed one unearned run in four innings. Nicasio, who was hit the head by a line drive and suffered a broken neck requiring surgery when he fell last Aug. 5, hasn't allowed an earned run in seven innings this spring.
Gonzalez homered deep to right center off Arizona starter Josh Collmenter, who struck out two in two innings.
ROCKIES (SS) 6, RANGERS 1
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) - Jordan Pacheco went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Todd Helton had two doubles and drove in a run.
Tyler Chatwood, who is competing for the final spot in the Rockies' rotation, held Texas to one run on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Helton and Pacheco had consecutive one-out doubles off Rangers starter Neftali Feliz to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead in the second.
Feliz went three innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.
Rangers left-fielder Josh Hamilton left the game after two innings after jamming his right heel chasing down Helton's second-inning double. He's day to day.
PADRES (SS) 8, DIAMONDBACKS (SS) 0
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Chase Headley and Carlos Quentin hit back-to-back home runs and Nate Freiman added a three-run homer.
Padres starter Joe Wieland struck out four and allowed two hits in four innings.
Patrick Corbin started the game for Arizona and allowed three hits and struck out three in three scoreless innings. Trevor Bauer, the third overall pick of last June's draft, followed Corbin, going two innings and giving up one hit and one walk while striking out three.
Takashi Saito gave up the home runs to Headley and Quentin, the first two batters he faced.
MARINERS 6, ROYALS 2
PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) - Kevin Millwood shut out Kansas City for four innings and Michael Saunders drove in a pair of runs with a double as part of a four-run sixth inning for Seattle.
High-level prospect Vinnie Catricala also knocked in two runs with singles in the fourth and sixth innings as the Mariners improved to 10-3 this spring.
Ichiro Suzuki had two hits for the Mariners and scored a run, and Millwood walked three and allowed a hit in four innings.
Royals starter Aaron Crow, an All-Star reliever last season, went three innings and allowed two runs on two hits, walking two with two strikeouts.
The Mariners led 6-0 before Kansas City scored a pair of unearned runs off Oliver Perez.
Jonathan Broxton struck out two in one inning of work in his spring debut for Kansas City.
