Man gets 40 days in death of dog

HILLSBORO, Mo. (AP) — An eastern Missouri man has been sentenced to 40 days in jail for using a hockey stick to strangle a dog.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/zQ42F1 ) reports that 53-year-old Steven Brunello was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty in December to a felony animal abuse charge. He was also placed on probation for five years.

Brunello, of Jefferson County, told authorities that he killed a dog that had been in a fight with another dog in November 2009. He said the dog attacked him after he tried to break up the fight.

But a deputy who went to the scene said there was no sign of a dog fight or of injuries to Brunello.

The judge should have added another "0" to the 40 days. Make it 400 days instead of 40.

It was just a dog. Meanwhile people kill babies and drive drunk and get much lesser punishments.

Sorry, they should have given him the same sentence he gave the dog.

Meanwhile, murdering an innocent girl gets you a plea deal and possibility for parole.

spelchk, the murder of an innocent child, woman, man should also receive the same sentence the victims received. Unfortunately, our justice system is no longer concerned about justice, it's concerned about how a sentence could affect the criminal.

Agreed. I love dogs, but I don't categorize them with people. Some loser (or as some folks on here would say, looser) purposely ran over my childhood dog, I was devastated, I wanted revenge, but not death.
