“The more I think about this, the more I think this is a waste of taxpayer money,” said Ward I Alderwoman Pamela Murray.

Murray said the lobbyist would be doing what the people elected the mayor and members of the Board of Aldermen to do. She said she called all Missouri offices of members of Congress and discussed with them the need for the funding. “It only took a few minutes,” she said.

But the three other members of the board voted to hire The Swain Group LLC of Columbia to perform lobbying services for the city to seek federal funds for the city.

Seems like the people (besides one) are just lazy. Take a day, walk around the Capitol and do your own lobbying. I do it all the time for things as well as others. Get off your butt and get something done, you just threw 20 grand out the window. What leadership, WOW !

Lobbying is free. Joy is right, get out and do it yourselves. This is THE most ridiculous place we have ever lived. Murders, drug dealing, speeding and no law enforcement to speak of. And you want a lobbyist?? Are you kidding??? Its no wonder people laugh at this place.

And while you are at it, pick up the stuff on Summit Drive. It looks like a third world country.

Amen. The people are empowered to do more than lay around and pay taxes. Get out there and clean up the town. Everytime I drive through HS I see nothing that says the people who live there have any pride in themselves or in their city.

I have a question....who is HE??? And on the pride thing.....good luck. We take pride in our home but get so disgusted when we drive past some of these places. Junk cars everywhere, trash everywhere. We thought for sure things would really get better over here. Doesn't look like it. As much as we never thought we would, we are ready to move BACK into JC. This place is going nowhere fast. The big problem with the city is there is NO tax base. No incentive. Taxes are from the sales in the city. And everytime someone gets in office that knows what they are doing, the town runs them out. I really don't think they want to better themselves, they like it this way.

They got the same attitude as Jefferson City. Best to move way out in the county so you can live in peace for a few years before they annex you.

Well, not only is this a WASTE of 20K, but why isn't the article about the city hiring an alderman's cleaning business on here for comments? NOW THAT IS TOTALLY RIDICULOUS!!! AND for the council to make that decision without abiding by the law is horrible. I think there are plenty of residents who would gladly accept the cleaning job to help with their unemployment or even supplement their lousy state wages. Holts Summit police make wayyyyyyyyy too much money for the little that they do. WHY is there always two officers riding around in one car. IF they need assistance, they can call for help. Get Holts Summit back to what it used to be, a nice town to live and raise families.

The town has gone to cr-p in the few years i've lived up there. I have seen more and more of the "regular" crooks from JC move up there to get away from the PD since Holts Summit staff is to small to handle it. jcmo2: 2 officers in the same car could be for a number of reasons (reserve ride alongs, training, saving on the gas budget for higher patrol months coming, vehicle shortage due to maintenance, its not unusual) Its also a good idea on your heavy domestic violence nights (YES, certain nights of the week are KNOWN to be higher than others!) for safety reasons.

We are moving out as soon as possible, but trying to SELL a house there in this market right now.....i'll wait it out.

Mr_Grimm... good point on the 2 officers in a veh, at least maybe they're trying to save gas, but not our tax money hu. (in regards to paying 20K for a lobbyist)... ALSO, do you have any more insight on the hiring of an alderman's cleaning service? I don't think that is fair what-so-ever and would like the city to explain their reasoning. Shoot, I'll clean the two buildings for about $600/month!!! AND yes, I hear you on moving, we're wanting to sell our house also and get out of HS (and to think we've lived there for over 20 years!)

i don't know anything more than anyone else, i think its a bunch of garbage but not surprised a bit. Were a small town so they think were to dumb to notice. but joke will be on them when all the decent law abiding citizens find somewhere else to call home.
