Missouri sent West as No. 2 seed

COLUMBIA, Mo. — About 10 minutes prior to Sunday’s NCAA Basketball Selection Show, coach Frank Haith told a crowd of approximately 4,000 Tigers supporters at Mizzou Arena not to be upset if Missouri didn’t get a No. 1 seed or end up in the Midwest Region.
When the announcement came a few minutes later the Tigers will begin their NCAA Tournament journey as a No. 2 seed against 15th-seeded Norfolk (Va.) State in the West Region, the fans cheered and celebrated in front of a national audience.
But a season of adversity that began the day Haith was hired in April continued Sunday as Missouri tried to speak positively about being passed up for a No. 1 seed or a spot in the Midwest Region, which includes Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games in St. Louis.
When asked if being sent West as a No. 2 seed would be used for more motivation, Haith was tight-lipped.
“We’ll see,” he said with a smile.
