Rock Bridge beats Blue Springs for Class 5 title

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Freshman Sophie Cunningham made 13 free throws in the fourth quarter as Rock Bridge beat Blue Springs 52-41 for the Missouri Class 5 girls' state title.

The Bruins (26-3) scored the game's first 14 points Saturday before Blue Springs' Tyonna Snow scored with 1:53 left in the first quarter. That sparked an 8-0 run for the Wildcats, but Blue Springs would get within five points only once in the game.

Chayla Cheadle scored 19 points and Cunningham had 16 for the Bruins, who converted 26-of-38 free throws and hit six 3-pointers en route to the school's second state championship.

Tyonna Snow scored 17 points and Karyla Middlebrook added 13 for Blue Springs (27-5), which has lost four straight championship games and has never won a state title.
