Ice show to celebrate 50 years

Fifty years ago, skaters began the tradition of an annual ice show, and when they take to the ice for the annual ice show this month, organizers say everything from the costumes to songs and tributes are meant to, in some way, honor the 50 years of hard work and education from the skating community in Jefferson City.

Rachel Bruemmer, co-chair for this year's "Golden Traditions" event, said everything from the gold-themed costumes to the musical selections are from a variety of past performances.

"This year's ice show is a celebration of the past 49 years of skating shows at the ice arena," Bruemmer said.

Children as young as 3 will perform in the 1 1/2-hour show, which includes a 20-minute intermission.

Performances are done by skaters from the synchronized skating teams and students from skating lessons. There are both solos and duets, which Bruemmer said are each unique and sure to please the crowd.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. March 9 and 10, and at 2:30 p.m. on March 11. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for those ages 3-17 and free for those 3 and younger.
