Missouri Democrats object to Limbaugh in Capitol display
Wednesday, March 7, 2012
Missouri House Democrats on Tuesday called for the abandonment of plans to induct conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh into the Hall of Famous Missourians in the state Capitol.
A letter signed by 48 House Democrats said Limbaugh is unworthy for the honor because of a “controversial career.” Democrats specifically cited Limbaugh’s recent comments describing a female law student involved in the national debate about insurance for contraception as a “slut” and “prostitute.” The Democrats said that honoring the talk show host now could be seen as an unspoken endorsement of his “misogynistic attitudes.” Limbaugh has apologized for his comments.
“Inductees have been limited to those widely recognized for making positive contributions in their given field or who have otherwise achieved acclaim,” the Democrats’ letter stated. “Mr. Limbaugh’s brand of fame is best described as notoriety and the value of his contributions to the field of broadcasting are debatable. He would by far be the most divisive and controversial inductee to the Hall, and his inclusion would not bring honor to the state of Missouri.”
The Democrats’ letter was sent to House Speaker Steven Tilley on the letterhead of Minority Leader Mike Talboy, of Kansas City.
Tilley said Tuesday he will go forward with inducting Limbaugh and that he was not surprised the choice has been criticized.
“I knew some people didn’t like him, but there’s a lot of people in the Hall of Famous Missourians that weren’t the most popular people and that took controversial stances,” he said.
Tilley has said he decided about three months ago to select Limbaugh, noting that he is among the world’s best-known radio personalities and that it is called the Hall of Famous Missourians — not the hall of “universally loved Missourians.”
Inductees into the Hall of Famous Missourians have their busts displayed in the state Capitol. Several dozen people have been chosen by Missouri House speakers through the years, including President Harry Truman, Mark Twain, Walt Disney, George Washington Carver and Stan Musial.
Limbaugh’s induction was endorsed by the top state Senate Republican.
“I think Rush Limbaugh has done well in his field of work, and I think he is deserving to be placed in that area where famous Missourians are recognized,” said Senate President Pro Tem Rob Mayer, of Dexter.
Tilley, Mayer and Limbaugh all are from southeastern Missouri. Tilley, a Republican, represents Perryville in the Missouri House, and Limbaugh is a Cape Girardeau native.
The Democrats said fame should not be sufficient for recognition and, if it were, outlaws Frank and Jesse James then could qualify for the Hall of Famous Missourians.
Despite Limbaugh’s apology, his radio show has lost at least nine advertisers since his comments about 30-year-old Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, who testified in favor of health care policy that would compel her Jesuit college’s health plan to cover birth control.
Late Negro Leagues baseball player Buck O’Neil was inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians during a ceremony last week. Tilley said he also plans to select Dred Scott, a slave who sued unsuccessfully for his freedom in a famous court case.

This should not be a political thing. It should be about recognizing a bad decision to have a person with such a questionable history being recognized by having a statute placed in the state Capitol Bldg. I understand this Busk/Statute is paid for by Private Donors....ok fines...then let those donors find a palce on private property to recognize Mr. Limbaugh and those who have his same twisted views. I'd also be interested in knowing who these private donors are and what type of social groups they belong to.
Rush Limbaugh is famous, but he's famous for all the wrong reasons and Mr. Tilley...since you're so thrilled that you and Limbaugh are Homies...why not take this Busk and stick in the Club House where you two can sit down have a beer, wear your bed sheets, burn a few crosses and sing about the land of cotton. Don't goof up the rest of the state because of your bad judgement.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was an adulterer and got his own day. He did good things and bad things, he was human. Why doesn't Rush get the same respect? Because he's white? Because he's conservative? Because he's rich? I'm curious.
Sequoia 1 year, 2 months ago
No, it's because Rush hasn't done anything GOOD. What has he done that's good? King's work was good, his personal life not so much. But it is his good work that changed society, and that's what we celebrate him for. What he did. Not who he was as a human being.
I go back to the very first comment I made on this: What has Rush done that is good? What has he done besides get famous?
I mean, are you REALLY not seeing the difference between MLK and Rush Limbaugh?
Sequoia 1 year, 2 months ago
Let me ask you this: If Paris Hilton were from Missouri, would you support her getting this honor?
If your answer is "yes," then we just have a fundamental disagreement about what deserves honor in our culture. If your answer is "no," then you understand my point about Rush.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
You refuse to see Rush's philanthropic work. This horse has been beaten, but for some reason you want to beat it more; how cruel.
Sequoia 1 year, 2 months ago
You didn't answer my question. So, if Paris Hilton gave some money to charity, that's all it takes? Write a couple checks, and suddenly your a "great" human being? I'm not dismissing his charity as worthless. I'm just saying it doesn't make him great.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
Your juxtaposition of Rush and Hilton is absurd. Give me apples to apples, then we'll get mad at the computer screen some more.
JMO 1 year, 2 months ago
Sequoia, yesterday I actually typed Paris Hilton in one of my responses and changed it. We're right on the same wavelength here.
How's Howard Stern for an apple, Spelchek? Radio personality, nasty as all get out, loved by some, hated by others. If he were from Missouri would you like him for the hall of fame?
Or maybe Brad Pitt? HUGE movie star, but otherwise, not a whole lot of good done to the country as a whole.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
"Or maybe Brad Pitt? HUGE movie star, but otherwise, not a whole lot of good done to the country as a whole." "Mr. Pitt provided more than $4.4-million to the Jolie Pitt foundation....
The foundation gave $1-million each to Doctors Without Borders and the Global AIDS Alliance and smaller grants to the Namibia Red Cross Action Program, the Daniel Pearl Foundation, Global Green USA, and the Epidermolysis Bullosa Medical Research Foundation, among other grantees." Best to remain silent and thought a fool, rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt.
JMO 1 year, 2 months ago
And you're talking about giving to charity. That's a great thing, but I don't think it on par with MLK. Do forgive me for not keeping up with the tabloids.
So, I take it you like Brad for the Hall? How about Howard?
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
"...but I don't think it on par with MLK." Wrong, along with Brad's aforementioned philanthropic work including building free earth friendly homes with his own hands in New Orleans, they are both adulterers. Right on par.
JMO 1 year, 2 months ago
I notice that, other than seeming to either 1) love Brad Pitt or 2) have a problem with Martin Luther King, you have yet to answer my question.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
Sorry, I was distracted from all the other wrong things you said around the question at hand. Ahem......Yes, I believe Howard Stern deserves to be put on a pedestal if that's what a speaker pro tem or whomever desires. The man is public figure, became famous breaking down the barriers of censorship that some of you apparently want reinforced, not taken down. Elvis Presley was controversial shaking his hips around, that's why early broadcasts show him waist up during performances. We (well some us) look back on that now and say how silly. Mr. Limbaugh's gaffe is pale in comparison to his years of spouting individual liberty and freedom for all those who given the reigns of their God given talents can achieve and become anything they want without government interference. Do I like Mr. Stern, personally no. Could history shine a more innocent light on Mr. Stern when the culture of the future is juxtaposed against the times he lived in, sure. BTW - Howard Stern is not apples to apples. Rush doesn't parade actual sluuts, p0rn stars, and pr0st1tutes on his show, but I repeat myself.

House Speaker Steven Tilley and Senate President Pro Tem Rob Mayer are a prime example of a representative form of government NOT working. If you read the forums in Mid-MO and St. Louis the overwhelming majority are against honoring Limbaugh's brand of "famous". Yet they don't care what the people say and plan to do what THEY want. Clearly these two lack a moral compass and are unable to represent the electorate. At the very least, their party should remove them from any leadership post until they learn to read the famous words in the capital, let the will of the PEOPLE be the supreme law of the land.

This man may be from Missouri, but he clearly does NOT represent the Missouri that I know and love. Here is what Missouri means to me (a life-long resident): beautiful countryside, farms, families, and good old fashioned hard work, respect for others, ethics, common sense and decency. We try real hard to accept people and treat them right. This is the Missouri that I am PROUD to call home. This was not always the case. Sadly our state started out with a pretty rough record for treating women and blacks like poop. I would hope that after all this time the decency and ethics and common sense would have taught ya'll to stop the hate. This man is the opposite of everything good that Missouri means to me. Maybe that is why he isn't here anymore.

Read very carefully: "The Democrats said..."
History lesson: Frank and Jesse were murderers who raped and killed indiscriminately and stole others money.
"Giving a small percentage of your money to charity." -- A typical democrat comment; always knowing how much of someone elses to spend. Why don't you show him up and give up a percentage more of your income than he does?
Sequoia 1 year, 2 months ago
Huh? You're the one acting like Rush deserves honor because he gives something to charity. I don't care what he gives. He could give everything he has to the poor and walk around barefoot... I still wouldn't honor him. I'm not arguing that I should be honored. I'm arguing that getting famous, not killing anybody and giving something to charity isn't something that deserves a great honor. I don't think the James boys should be honored either. Maybe if you quit typing those noises in there, I'll find your point.

I believe the above states Tilley says it is NOT "universally loved Missourians". So "yes" if Limbaugh receives a bust so should Frank and Jesse James. This is where common sense should be applied! Democratic or Republican EVERY woman should be repulsed be this man. Tilley stated someone should not be shunned by one mistake, well Limbaugh would never have called a woman a ---- if he did not feel that way! This means any woman who has taken birth control and had it subsidized by insurance is a ----?? And all these MEN speaking up this could be your mother, wife, daughter and granddaughter! Also birth control is used for many medical reasons! Mr. Tilley has the power to totally embarrass Mo. with this bust - even the president does not hold this kind of power!
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
"Democratic or Republican EVERY woman should be repulsed be [sic] this man." -- How did I miss this? Another, demand for women to think your way. If Ms. Fluke was my "mother, wife, daughter and granddaughter" I would have told her, "Don't let your mouth write a check your arse can't cash."
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
"This means any woman who has taken birth control and had it subsidized by insurance is a ----?? " ----------- Wrong. The issue is forcing someone else to pay for unwanted babies even if it goes against their beliefs. As it stands, I can choose an insurance plan I agree with, Obamacare says you don't have a choice (loss of freedom).
"Also birth control is used for many medical reasons!" -- Correct, and insurance already covers BC for these reasons.
"...even the president does not hold this kind of power!" -- Wrong. He was the whip behind getting the worst piece of legislation in this nations history passed at midnight, on Christmas Eve, with democrat senators bribed or threatened for their vote, under the guise of transparency. Don't believe me, ask Sen. Ben Nelson what happened.
Sequoia 1 year, 2 months ago
But your tax dollars wouldn't actually be paying for the woman's birth control. Georgetown is a private university. She pays her tuition, it pays for her health insurance. The government is just saying that the insurance (which she, not you, is paying for) should cover contraception. You get that, right? I'm not sure why you and Rush think that "someone else" is paying for this contraception. She's paying for it.
I'm not sure you actually understand this issue.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
Understand very well, not quite sure you do.
"But your tax dollars wouldn't actually be paying for the woman's birth control." -- Correct. I will be forced to pay additional premiums to cover unwanted babies. Let us not candy coat. "The government is just saying that the insurance (which she, not you, is paying for) should cover contraception." -- Wrong. The government is forcing a long standing Catholic institution (that she knowingly/voluntarily enrolled in) to give up it's religious beliefs and rights to pay for Ms. Fluke's and other women's unwanted babies via their insurance policy.
"I'm not sure why you and Rush think that "someone else" is paying for this contraception. She's paying for it." -- As it stands now, yes she's paying for it as it should be, her responsibility, nobody else. Her argument is that the Catholic institution she attends should be forced to go it's religious beliefs and force all insured to pay for someone elses unwanted baby even if it runs contrary to their consciousness. Have I made you see things my way from now on?
JMO 1 year, 2 months ago
You have me completely confused by your constant comment about paying for unwanted babies...
Isn't the idea that that you PREVENT unwanted babies?
The argument is that all institutions should offer health insurance that includes birth control. Therefore, yes, that would mean the employer/institution would pay their share of the premium. (Given that premiums are usually paid in part by the insured and in part by their employer.) But it's not like they're giving away free birth control pills...they're simply paying for insruance - like they've done all along - it's just that the insurance would cover birth control if the woman wanted to use it.
Has anyone even looked into the cost difference between policies that DO cover birth control and those that DON'T cover birth control. Because I'm pretty sure they're comparable or even more expensive. Because they'll still be covering pregnancy related costs, and are more likely to have those costs w/o the birth control.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
Mere semantics, prevented or not, they're unwanted, and Obamacare says I have to help pay for that now even if I didn't before AND goes against my 1st amendment rights. This mandate will not stand SCOTUS muster.
respect 1 year, 2 months ago
Wow all your comments speak for themselves - this man is nothing but a mouth with money and should NOT be considered a historic figure!
Sequoia 1 year, 2 months ago
All health insurance policy holders, in effect, pay for fellow policy holders' health care. It would be more expensive for you if she had the baby than if she used contraception.
Now, take that donut out of your mouth, get off that computer and get to the gym. I'm paying for your health care, you know!
evenkeel 1 year, 2 months ago
Nobody’s blocking anyone from having access to contraception. No one. The young lady who testified can get access to contraception. Nobody said she couldn’t. The question is, should a Catholic institution, or for that matter, the Ohio Christian University, which is a Protestant institution, which is a very pro-life institution, which is now being told it will have to pay for abortion pills. Now we have religious institutions that are being dictated to by Washington politicians over whether or not it can have its own religious beliefs. Have we become a country where it’s OK to go to church on Sunday morning for one hour, but let’s not actually express those beliefs the rest of the week? This is the most fundamental assault on religious liberty in American history despite every effort by the elite media to distort what it’s about. It’s not about access to contraception. People have access. People who want to, can get access to contraception every day. That young lady can get access to contraception. It is a question about whether or not a religiously affiliated institution should be coerced by the federal government. – Newt Gingrich
Yes, I like coercion. -- Sequoia
It is better to be a free citizen than a client of the Obama state. -- Evenkeel
There is a Democratic war on religious liberty, taxpayers and common sense. Contraceptives are not a matter of life and death. But even if they were, as for example, cancer drugs are, is that an argument for forcing insurance companies to provide them free of charge? Why not force free distribution of all medicines? The mandate makes no economic, social, or moral sense.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
REVEREND!!!!
Sequoia 1 year, 2 months ago
So, is the only way you can beat me in an argument is to make up quotes?
To me, this issue is about whether religious employers have to follow the same law as everybody else.
Leaders of religious institutions can express their beliefs all they want. Nobody in Washington is dictacting "whehter or not [an instutition] can have its own beliefs." Please. Talk about distortion.
The law is the law. If you don't like it, change it. But you can't have a society where everyone just opts out of laws they don't like because of religious conviction.
So, let it go, or pay me back my taxes that went to the Iraq War. That violated MY religious beliefs.
It makes perfect economic sense: Women contribute more to society when they have control over their reproduction. This law makes sure that women have access to contraception to control their reproduction.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
"To me, this issue is about whether religious employers have to follow the same law as everybody else."-- You do realize there is a long list of Obama's friends exempted from this law? Why are unions exempt and churches not? No need to answer, question is rhetorical.
"So, let it go, or pay me back my taxes that went to the Iraq War. That violated MY religious beliefs."--Two completely different issues. Religious institutions are forced to make their insured pay premiums (note the term premiums) to provide something to others against their religious beliefs. You are talking about taxes, another thing government forces us to pay; difference being I can stop paying for the insurance I disagree with, for now.

Sorry to drift off topic, but since we're already astray I commend this article on health care for your consideration:
theatlantic.com/business/archive/2012/03/the-myth-of-the-free-market-american-health-care-system/254210/
It's about how the two best healthcare systems in the world, Switzerland and Singapore, are to the left AND to the right of the U.S. system.
These kind of circular discussions remind me how weird it is to attach oneself to a position like "right" or "left" and think that the answer must always be EITHER "right" OR "left." Insane.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
Agreed. I know that both parties have ideas to bring to the table to help "fix" health care. Compromise is a must. I read your link, the Swiss require citizens to pay premiums and the rest is gov't subsidized by income base. They have the option to shop for insurance they like. The way the PPACA is headed, we will have one, exchanges. I say let the insurance companies compete and lower costs.

Look dude, all those people got criticized for those things you cited. I think there is a difference in that all the people you named were public figures who make their living in the spotlight, whereas Rush's comments were about a private citizen exercising her right to testify at a Congressional hearing. That's a big difference, but I agree that talking heads on both the right and the left could stand to chill out and be more respectful.
But the point is that no one is asking to put Ed Shultz or Chris Matthews in the Missouri Hall of Fame.
And I'm so sick of this over-used word "outrage." Is anyone on the right or left truly "outraged" over any of these comments? These people have been saying this terrible stuff for their whole careers. THEY ARE BAD PEOPLE. It would be like going outside and getting "outraged" that you get bit by a mosquito. Why are all the "outraged" people the broadcasters who traffic in insults every day? They're all actors and fakes, dude. Don't you GET that?
Two of the big problems: CNN started "24 hour news." That's too much time to fill. The result is all these dipisht bobble head yakkers filling airtime with hot air. The second problem is that Fox News started the hard-charging info-tainment model. The left tries to copy Fox, but they just look pathetic. Nobody does the "outrage" act like Fox. And you buy into it!! It's as if you don't realize that Gretta Van Sustren is PRETENDING to be outraged by whatever Obama did that day. Olberman is PRETENDING to be outraged by Palin.

He is NOT a famous Missourian and remember only one person thinks so Mr Tilley- oh and the few of you on this forum!

You do realize Missouri voted for McCain, right? Your "one person" and "few of you" perception is extremely exaggerated, right?

"This is about a misogynistic blow-hard who's claim to fame is hateful rhetoric.." -- Good thing your against hateful rhetoric.

I see, he/she didn't meet the democratic hateful rhetoric criteria. Got it.

If the rhetoric police known as hkchas says so...I guess....

Wouldn't "blow-hard" fit in with sluut / prost1tute?

Well, I'm not up for any honor's for being famous for my ability to talk - as best I can tell, that's what he's famous for - now am I? I didn't call anyone a foul name on a nationally broadcasted show. More importantly, I didn't say anything untrue.
But you know, my problem, AS I KEEP SAYING OVER AND OVER, isn't so much with what he says. Rush Limbaugh is perfectly entitled to voice his opinion any time and he does, loudly and with venom. My problem is him being honored because it happened to make him famous.
And yes, I'm a she.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
This story and message board is making him even more famous.
lovemykids 1 year, 2 months ago
Might make him more famous... but I promise you it just nailed at least one ANTI-OBAMA voter to change her mind.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
You shouldn't use "nailed" and "her" in the same sentence when talking about Rush, makes you look silly.
lovemykids 1 year, 2 months ago
No sir you are intentionally missing the point.
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
No I'm not. You say no, I say yes.

And another thing, Liberals:
Conservatives don't even come close to matching the filth and vulgarity that comes from the entertainment-Hollywood-Democrat complex! You strain at a conservative "knat", but swallow, with gusto, the filth of the liberal "camel"!
spelchek 1 year, 2 months ago
Don't forget squirrels, little bunnies, flowers, wind mills, the ocean, hybrids, the menstrual cycle, babies (especially the non-white ones), air, balloons, the laughter of children, poor people, poorer people, poorest people, people less and more rich than him, Missouri, Missourians, stars (both kinds), Elton John....wait...never mind, peace, giving peace a chance, kittens, kitten food, and a litany of things nice I don't have to time to finish....
tonto_goldberg 1 year, 2 months ago
See below. That's a bogus complaint.
zimbabwe 1 year, 2 months ago
Really hkchas!?!!
And how do you know that? Because Media Matters and Newsone tells you so? Who is the mind-numbed robot here? Do you listen to Rush? No. You just parrot what you hear on the Left!
lovemykids 1 year, 2 months ago
I have listened to Rush. I heard an angry man who seems to hate everything that isn't his way 100% of the time. He seems like a classic example of a bully. Just to make it clear, I have also listened to Bill and he also comes off as an angry man and a bully. Talking heads are doing NOTHING but spreading the divide in our country. If we are divided we are weak and easy to control. Keep that in mind.
zimbabwe 1 year, 2 months ago
Noone has even challenged my original statement:
Conservatives don't even come close to matching the filth and vulgarity that comes from the entertainment-Hollywood-Democrat complex! You strain at a conservative "knat", but swallow, with gusto, the filth of the liberal "camel"!
lovemykids 1 year, 2 months ago
That is a big part of the problem in our country! These talking heads seem to think that it is ok to be a bully and say inappropriate things, because the other guy does it too. I do NOT agree with it when the Repubs do it! I do NOT agree with it when the Dems do it!
I love analogies. So let's try this one: You have 2 kids beating each other up. One says but he hit me too. The other says but he hit me too. BOTH CHILDREN HERE ARE DOING WRONG!
zimbabwe 1 year, 2 months ago
Love:
You need to love your kids more! Because their futures are at stake. Surely you see that there are times that you must stand up and fight for what is right!
Just because Republicans and conservatives are not perfect--and they are not--does not give you license to view their arguements with the same disdain as you view the American Left who are working day and night to subvert the Constitution.
Would you have kept your peace or scolded those you who verbally fought against Hitler?
If Conservatives are wrong, articulate it. If not defend them. Your children's future is at stake.

Mea Culpa on the spelling
zimbabwe 1 year, 2 months ago
Tonto:
You still have not challenged my statement--other than the spelling.... The hate rhetoric on the Left and the vile and vulgar speech from the Hollywood-Democrat-media complex far surpasses what you hear and see from the Right. This is NOT about Rush or even the words he used, it is about politics! You know it.
Obama and the Democrat Party are a very real threat to the Constitution and our way of life. You need to be open minded.
tonto_goldberg 1 year, 2 months ago
Sorry to disappoint but you don't give me much to work with. You might try to find an example to get things rolling. There's nothing in your comment to challenge. It's empty. You are merely repeatinganother poster's favorite themes on the News Tribune forums. You can read the same comment a hundred times on dozens of different forums.

READ: Editorial Notebook:" Perhaps bust of Rush fits well in Missouri Capitol" - St. Louis Post Love This editorial - Title is deceiving - This is why Limbaugh should NOT add to women's misery at the capitol! Sorry could not post direct link-not allowed!
zimbabwe 1 year, 2 months ago
hkchas & respect:
Do you listen to Rush Limbaugh? No. There is nothing misogynistic about him. But you wouldn't know, because all you really know about him is what they tell you at MSNBC, Media Matters, and other left-wing media sites.
Rush Limbaugh doesn't kowtow to the radical feminist movement. Niether does the average Missouri woman. He doesn't support abortion. Niether does the average Missouri woman.
Once again, it is really all about politics, isn't it? It is not about misogyny. What political position does Rush support that makes you think he hates women? Try if you can to state it in your own words, instead of making people track down your links. That shouldn't be so hard, should it?
Gabrielle 1 year, 2 months ago
I like Rush Limbaugh. I have listened to him and understand much of what he says and why. I do not know what prompted him on the name calling. I am curious to know what his line of thinking was at the time. Rush Limbaugh is appreciated by many people across the nation - including women and blacks. I remember listening to him when a woman from California called - identified herself as part of some black business association. She said something to him like - if he were to bend over they would gladly kiss is posterior. They hear him clearly as he talks about America's freedoms. He is an example of what can be accomplished given America's freedoms. What I don't understand is why people use the word 'hate' when talking about him. He is a freedom loving American. Why is that wrong?
Gabrielle 1 year, 2 months ago
Great! Thanks hkchas for providing the link. It was a nice collection of Rush's comments on the topic. I laughed while I was watching it. While I am not into name calling, it was actually huimourous to listen to Rush. I also listened to Fluke's statements - or some of them - when she spoke at the hearing. She really needs to get her act together. She brought up several different issues. Many didn't relate to the issue of contraception - rather other problems with health care delivery/access. Way off base on that....and she is studying to be a lawyer?....at Georgetown??? WHOA!
Now, about my daughter, hkchas - when my daughter finds it necessary to verbalize her position on an issue - she has her act together. She knows the facts - she thinks things through before she speaks. I am confident she will always handle herself well. People are free to disagree with her if they so choose.
Another thing - I really dislike it when people tell me things because they presume I havent' given serious thought to the issue. For example: 'what if he were talking about YOUR daughter....' or because someone belongs to a certain group they ought to feel a certain way. Speaks volumes of the person who says such things.'Yes, I am referring to you, hkchs. Always thinking others - nonliberals/nonlefties - are stupid - closed minded.
zimbabwe 1 year, 2 months ago
Furthermore, hkchas et al, I posit that Rush Limbaugh's political views more closely reflect the average Missouri woman's than yours. misogyny, indeed!
zimbabwe 1 year, 2 months ago
hkchas:
You are avoiding my question. What political position does Rush Limbaugh put forth that you consider misogynist? Or contrary to the political philosophy of most of the women in Missouri?
respect 1 year, 2 months ago
Limbaugh is being honored for what: being married four times (while preaching family values), illegal drug user, never served our military, and does not reside in Mo.! If your response is a TV/Radio host - then he sure is NOT good at that because he obviously can not debate ONLY bully.
zimbabwe 1 year, 2 months ago
As you can clearly see, hkchas and respect, and their fellow Left-wing travelers cannot give one POLITICAL POSITION held forth by Rush Limbaugh that can be considered misogynist!
Instead, they resort to snide remarks about his imperfections as a human being--as if they are the epitome of virtue. And, in the case of hkchas, they just make it up..or repeat the lies of others, ie. suggesting that Rush engages in "calling [all] women who take contraceptives ( now a Republican political issue) slts & prosttutes", which of course is totally false.
Meanwhile, Mr. Obama, slashes and burns the First Amendment. Not only do they--the hkchas and respects of the country-- turn a blind eye to it, they embrace it!
So all you Catholics out there, you better get used to it. Obama is "fundamentally transforming" this country into one that is very hostile to your religious rights. But I for one am not going to take this lying down. You don't have to either. Get rid of him, and all his accomplices on the Left--such as Claire McCaskill.
zimbabwe 1 year, 2 months ago
I rest my case. hkchas, you are a like a robot. You just keep repeating the same thing over and over--whatever you have been programmed to say. You are unable to answer my question (see above) because Rush isn't misogynist.
I wonder if you are being paid to post here by some George Soros funded group. Whatever it is, you are unable to argue effectively.
Frankly this thread is beginning to bore me.

Rush isn't a politician, he's a radio personality who has a history of making disparaging remarks about women.
He has a lovely manner of referring to women in power Hillary Clinton as “Sex-retary of State” and Kathleen Sebelius as “Sex-retary of HHS”. He attacks feminism every chance he gets. One of his favorite words, “feminazi”.
“Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream."
"Colleges have been chickified. Men aren't showing up in as many numbers as they used to...This is what we have done to boys and men. The feminists / feminazis have been working for years to this end: advance women by diminishing men."
And of course, his famous quote about how women are like his cat.
"My cat comes to me when she wants to be fed. I have learned this. I accept it for what it is. Many people in my position would think my cat's coming to me because she loves me. Well, she likes me, and she is attached, but she comes to me when she wants to be fed. And after I feed her...she's off to wherever she wants to be in the house, until the next time she gets hungry. She's smart enough to know she can't feed herself. She's actually a very smart cat. She gets loved. She gets adoration. She gets petted. She gets fed. And she doesn't have to do anything for it, which is why I say this cat's taught me more about women, than anything my whole life.”
Links to all of these can be found easily, I found them on mediamatters.org.
Seriously, how anyone can say this man isn't a misogynist is a mystery to me. Perhaps you don't know the definition? Rush doesn't.
"The definition of a misogynist is a man who hates women almost as much as women hate women. That's what a misogynist is."
asb 1 year, 2 months ago
Grace, Rush is proudly a misogynist . . . for profit, not politics. His history makes your simple truth a simple falsehood. Whether you believe it or not is an interesting question, but your motives for defending him are obvious. And, while disparaging the leftist MediaMatters while using FOX's talking point nearly word-for-word may seem hypocritical . . . well actually I think that does qualify as hypocritical . . . more news!
JMO 1 year, 2 months ago
I don't care how left-wing the site is, they didn't just post the quotes. It has links to video of his program where each of the above statements were made. They didn't make it up...he's there in living color with the words coming right out of his mouth. That's just where I found the links to the videos.

hkchs: as usual, your statement indicates you believe others cannot think for themselves.Maybe - just maybe - others have opinions that are legitimate. Again, your words are a reflection of you and where you are.
Gabrielle 1 year, 2 months ago
You are absolutely right, hk! Sometimes there is disagreement between me and others. You are free to conclude whatever you want, hk. It is clear you have a brain and the ability to think as is evident in this post I am responding to.
Again, I reference your statement:.What if he was talking about YOUR daughter who had the courage to verbalize her position on an issue... I know you are attempting to make this about me - given you said 'all words are a reflection of those who speak them....' what is this statement saying about you? It is good to know you understand - or appear to understand - what I am saying.
