Deal opens animal shelter to Cole County use

Jefferson City and Cole County have come to an agreement on use of the new animal shelter, scheduled to open in May. The agreement, which will be introduced to the City Council on Monday, outlines the responsibility of the city to accept county animals in exchange for annual contributions.
The county has agreed to contribute $300,000 for construction of the new shelter and $100,000 annually for operating costs. The county’s annual contribution would be tied to the consumer price index and subject to increase each year.
