4 teens wounded in shooting near Columbia park

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Columbia police are searching for a man who opened fire on a group of teenagers near a city park.

Four males and a female, ages 16 through 19, were wounded when the shooting broke out just before 1 a.m. Thursday. Authorities said their wounds were not life-threatening. All four were treated at a hospital emergency room.

Investigators collected multiple shell casings at the scene near Douglass Park. Witnesses said a man had walked up to the group and begun firing without warning.

Police responded about 90 minutes earlier to a community center where officers found 15 to 20 people involved in a disturbance. Three people were arrested there.

A spokeswoman for the Columbia Police Department says it’s unclear if the shootings and the disturbance were related.
