Mo. GOP secretary of state candidate launches ad

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Republican secretary of state candidate Shane Schoeller (SHOH'-ler) has launched his first TV advertisement in the GOP primary.

The ad criticizes Democratic Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, who is not seeking re-election. It also touts Schoeller's support for a voter photo identification requirement and plans to create jobs by "cutting government red tape."

Schoeller's campaign said Wednesday the ad is running in the Springfield area. Southwest Missouri is an important area for Republican primaries.

Schoeller, from Willard, has served in state House leadership roles.

Republican Sens. Scott Rupp, of Wentzville, and Bill Stouffer, of Napton in west-central Missouri, also are running in the Aug. 7 primary.

Kansas City House member Jason Kander is the most prominent candidate in the Democratic primary.
