Missouri reactions to health care ruling
Thursday, June 28, 2012
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Notable Missouri reactions Thursday to the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding the federal health care overhaul.
———
“We’re just now beginning to review this ruling so that we can understand exactly what it means for Missouri. This ruling has significant complexities and implications for families, health care providers and insurers in our state. Here in Missouri, I’m committed to working collaboratively with citizens, businesses, medical providers and the legislature to move forward in a way that works best for families in our state.” — Missouri Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.
“It’s not right. It’s against the Constitution. The government has no right to force anybody to acquire something they can’t afford.” — Enrico Alvarez, 59, a 22-year Army veteran in Columbia.
“This decision does not change the fact that ObamaCare will lead to higher health care premiums, increased federal spending, and greater uncertainty for small business owners nationwide. That’s why Congress must repeal this deeply flawed law in its entirety and replace it with thoughtful, common-sense reforms that put patients and doctors in control of health care - not Washington bureaucrats.” — U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo.
“This is a crushing blow to freedom and an absolute insult to the dignity of all Americans. I am deeply disappointed in the Supreme Court for giving the government the authority to force citizens to buy a product. I believe this encroachment of government is unconstitutional and offensive. It puts the life and death health decisions of our families and loved ones in the hands of Washington Bureaucrats. We don’t want the compassion of the IRS or the efficiency of the DMV in our healthcare system.” — U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo.
“The medical care industry is super flawed. They just put a Band-Aid over the problem. It’s all diet related, and the medical industry glosses over it.” — Jason Nirmaier, 36, a self-employed landscaper in Columbia.
“This ruling solidified what we already knew: all Americans deserve quality, affordable health care. They deserve the peace of mind that a bump in the road won’t send them into a financial free fall. They deserve the right to take care of their families.” — U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-Mo.
“Today’s Supreme Court decision is very disappointing and underscores the critical nature of this election. ObamaCare is fundamentally flawed and the absolute wrong approach to health care reform. As Missouri’s next citizen-senator, I will fight to repeal ObamaCare and replace it with sensible, market-driven solutions that will truly control costs and improve our healthcare system.” — Republican U.S. Senate candidate John Brunner.
“I am disappointed and angry that the United States Supreme Court passed down a ruling which will alter the fabric of our nation by creating a fundamentally socialist healthcare system.” — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sarah Steelman.
“There’s only ever been one goal for Claire — affordable, accessible health care for Missouri.” — John LaBombard, spokesman for Missouri U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.
“This decision means that college students and other young adults across the state have the option of remaining on their parent’s health insurance while they transition into their first job. It also means transparent, more affordable health care options for all Missourians through a statewide health Insurance exchange.” — State Rep. Mary Still, D-Columbia.

Well now we all have a New Tax and our government is in the health insurance now. How long do you folks think this will last before we are broke. Oh I forgot that we are broke. Oh what part of Broke don't you understand?

Discouraging, isn't it? We are the last ones in, with a half-hearted effort to rein in health care and health insurance costs. Watch the most powerful labor union in the universe, the American Medical Association, jump in on this.

the deep south has been voting against their own self-interest for years. its all the brainwashing from right wing "news" organizations and crazy, obese talk show hosts. Every time I see a southerner frothing at the mouth and talking about welfare I have to remind them the state they live in benefits most from it.

I have to laugh every time people say the ACA is going to solve the health care cost issue. Especially when people like HK accuse the insurance companies of killing citizens. If you think our problems are solved then you need to be checked out. In regards to Medicaid- majority of all doctors do not accept medicaid patients any more because they make no money on them. You will have a lot more people on Medicaid and a lot less doctors taking the plan so longer waits and longer ER lines. You will have a lot less doctors so longer lines and longer waits. Do you actually think that just because people carry insurance it will be better. You still have the percent that the insurance doesn't pay. people will still refuse to pay that amount. Medicare and medicaid have either low or no co pays. so when they make less than 18 cents on the dollar how do you think things are gonna get better. Besides do you actually think you are gonna get the same kind of care when the medical staff have their own pay effected by the cost cuts. I bet not. You don't like it when your pay is messed with, I know they will not either.

You're missing the point. This is not about affordable healthcare, it is about government control. No one, right or left, wants to see any being suffer and not get the care they need. But the federal government should not be allowed to force citizens to buy something they do not want or cannot afford. What if the federal government decided that we needed to cut pollution so everyone was forced to buy a brand new car with low emissions ratings, regardless of whether or not you could afford the payment? It is not about wanting to see someone suffer, it's about protecting our constitutional rights to freedom. If the government can force us to buy health insurance, what is next?

BSthis ain't about government control....government control is when a provate citizen, who has no job or other means of support. Can somehow find the money to purchase hundreds of military style weapons and ammo...and when the PO-PO try to arrest or at least investigate that person, they are told by the elected Prosecuting Attorney, to stand down becasue there is nothing that can be done...... Government control is when there is no way to track who buy's large number's of firearms, because the elected officials are to afraid of what their heavy campaign donating NRA Group is going to do come election time. Government control...well that's the national leaders telling those that have the least to provide the most revenue in order for this country to prosper. Government control....that's when people like JW, Roomney and all the other's dodge their obligation to serve in uniform, yet are the first ones to push the War button when they get in control.... Government control man ....man don't get me going. Government control....Republican, Democrat, Tea Party, whatever...nobody should be in control...Government is suppose to be of the people and for the people...but shamefully...to many GOvernm, ent people don't want that to happen.
