Man charged in Wednesday robbery

A Cole County man was being held in the Cole County Jail on Thursday on a $100,000 bond after prosecutors charged him with using a gun to steal money from a Jefferson City teen.

Jefferson City police Detective Mark Edwards said, in a probable cause statement, that Aaron Dewon Brown, 32, of 740 Kathy Lane, "adamantly denied robbing anyone or having a gun."

But prosecutors charged Brown with second-degree robbery, a Class B felony that could result in a prison sentence between five and 15 years, if he's convicted.

The victim, 19, told police that several people had approached him while he was parked in the 200 block of West Atchison Street about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim said the group began to threaten and assault him, and one man showed a gun and took $50 cash.

Police said Brown was found nearby after the victim gave officers a description of the person who assaulted him and stole the cash.

The victim reportedly identified Brown twice - once at the scene, and a second time through a one-way mirror/window at the police station.

The police statement said the victim told officers "he was 100 percent positive that (Brown) was the same person (who) robbed him of U.S. currency and that he was armed with a deadly weapon."
