EUGENE, Ore. — The Olympic dreams of one area athlete came to fruition Sunday, while another came up empty at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials.
In the men’s shot put, Christian Cantwell uncorked a throw of 69-93⁄4 to snag the third and final qualifying spot for the London Games.
Things didn’t go so well for Vera Neuenswander, who failed to advance out of the women’s pole vault competition.
