The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce and the city have announced Dick’s Sporting Goods is coming to the Stoneridge Parkway near PetSmart.
The chain has confirmed it is coming to the local market, but declined further comment. So far, the city says, Dick’s has a building permit, but would need to go through the inspection process before opening. Also, the chain has inquired, but not applied for, a business license.

This is a poorly-written article that is old news. I wish the NT would actually do some regular business reporting. If they'd look at the Columbia, Joplin, St. Joseph and Cape Girardeau newspapers, they'd see that all of them have regular columnists that report new businesses opening, licenses filed and they also feel out any rumors in the community. That Dick's was building a store is old news. They've been working on it for quite some time, and it had been rumored for longer than that. Why can't our newspaper try to go after those leads? It would only sell more newspapers and build interest in the growth and betterment of our community.

Mr. Editor, I've read nearly all of those articles. They are a step in the right direction, however they don't appear to be published on the same day of the week or in the business section. The Columbia Tribune has a consistent Saturday business section with regular columns. "Street Talk" is consistently one of their most popular stories. Something like this would drive readership.

Correct, they are published as regular news stories as they come up, mainly on the front page or the first page of the local news (B) section. I'll pass your suggestion for a column along for consideration.

Sounds great, I appreciate it. My apologies for coming across so bluntly. I am a subscriber of the NT and while there are a lot of things our local paper does well, there are also things it can do better. Thank you for reporting our local news!
