Multiple accidents Friday morning in JC back-up traffic on U.S. 50

Three accidents caused traffic to snarl on the Friday morning commute into Jefferson City on U.S. 50.

According to Jefferson City Police Department reports, the first accident occurred at 7:38 a.m. in the 2000 block of 50 in the eastbound lanes.

Mark Jordan, 53, Jefferson City, was going east in the left lane, just west of Dix Road.

Destini Jackson, 25, Jefferson City, was traveling in front of Jordan.

Traffic in front of Jackson stopped abruptly and Jackson slowed for the traffic in front of her when she was hit from behind by Jordan.

Jackson went into a skid and her vehicle rolled onto the driver's side after colliding with the center concrete barrier.

When Jackson's vehicle came to rest it was blocking both eastbound lanes of traffic.

Jackson had to be extricated form the vehicle and was treated for minor injuries.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.

A second crash occurred behind Jordan's vehicle as result of the first accident.

No injuries were reported in the second crash.

Traffic was detoured around the Dix Road interchange for about one hour while emergency crews worked to clear the roadway.

The third accident happened at 8:34 a.m. in the 2900 block of U.S. 50 West.

Nikkola Monnig, 41, Jefferson City, slowed in the driving lane due to congestion ahead from the earlier accidents.

Kenneth Kunze, 75, California, looked to his left to see if the passing lane was open and when he looked back he struck Monnig.

Monnig was treated for moderate injuries.

Kunze was treated for minor injuries.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
