Cosplay event to be held at Capitol

Mid-Missouri residents could see hundreds of costumed people at the Capitol on Saturday in one of the biggest cosplay events in Jefferson City.

Rodney Hussman, event organizer for the Capital City Cosplay, said cosplay, short for costume play, allows anyone to get involved in a performance art form.

“Cosplay is when an individual would dress up as their favorite character or favorite idea,” Hussman said. “Cosplay is just another excuse to dress up as something they love.”

The cosplay event, to be held from 1-6 p.m. Saturday at the Capitol, will be a free event, Hussman said, and will feature a photo booth, scavenger hunts and sword fighting, with Styrofoam swords for safety. Anyone who stumbles across the event is welcome to participate, costume or not.

After the cosplay, he said a concert/ rave will be held at the fairgrounds featuring four DJs playing dub step and rave music. Anyone in costume will be able to get in free, while those without costumes will be charged $5.
