A review of two accounts that had been managed by a former Cole County Sheriff's Department jail clerk shows nearly $48,000 may have been taken from them.
The former clerk - Gina Freeman, 35, Jefferson City - was charged last month with stealing from those accounts.
At Wednesday's Cole County Commission meeting, commissioners went over a review done by County Auditor Jim LePage, which concluded the account balances as of May 17 are inaccurate and are not where LePage's office believes they should have been.
